For Our Military-Connected Families

Enrollment & PCS Transitions

  • How do I enroll my student before we physically arrive in Las Vegas? Nevada law allows for Advance Enrollment. You may use your PCS orders to a Nevada military installation to start the enrollment process online. Please contact our registrar with your orders and a temporary housing address or "Notice of Intent" to establish residency.
  • What documents do I need to bring? You will need your student’s birth certificate, current immunization records, proof of address (or orders), and unofficial transcripts from their previous school. Carrying a "Hand-Carried Educational Folder" is highly recommended.
  • How do I get my student’s special education (IEP/504) services transferred? Rancho HS honors current IEPs and 504 plans from other states under the Military Interstate Children’s Compact. Our Military Liaison will work with the Special Education Department to ensure there is no gap in service.

Academic & Magnet Programs

  • My student is interested in the Aviation or Medical Magnet programs. Can they join mid-year? Magnet seats are generally assigned via a lottery. However, the Military Interstate Compact (MIC3) allows for some flexibility in "comparable placement." Contact our Magnet Coordinator, [Name/Email], to discuss availability and eligibility for transferring into these specialized tracks.
  • Will my student’s out-of-state credits be accepted for graduation? Yes. We work closely with the CCSD to ensure credits are aligned with Nevada graduation requirements. Under the MIC3, we are committed to waiving certain state-specific courses if your student is a senior and it would prevent an on-time graduation.

JROTC & Extracurriculars

  • What is the JROTC program like at Rancho? Rancho is home to the oldest and largest Air Force JROTC unit in the state of Nevada (NV-031). It is a central hub for our military-connected students, offering leadership training, drill teams, and a built-in community of peers with similar backgrounds.
  • Will my child be immediately eligible to play sports? Yes. Per Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) rules, children of military families who transfer via a PCS are immediately eligible to participate in sports and sanctioned activities, bypassing the 180-day "transfer rule" applied to other students.

Social Support

  • Who is our point of contact on base? We work directly with the Nellis AFB School Liaison Officer (SLO). You can reach the Nellis SLO at (702) 652-2894. They are an excellent resource for any school-related issues involving the base and the district.
  • Is there a student "buddy" program? Yes! Our The Liaison Corps program is run through the JROTC and Counseling office. We will pair your student with a "Rancho Ambassador" on their first day to help them find their classes, meet friends, and learn the campus.
