Aviation

The only one of its kind in the District and one of only a handful in the United States, Rancho High School’s Academy of Aviation offers two dynamic and unique programs for students interested in aviation and aerospace. In the Academy of Aviation students learn the fundamentals of flight, space travel, and rocketry through hands-on projects and the use of expert technology in a state-of the-art aviation lab.  Physical sciences and emerging technologies are key components of course work.  Aviation students also earn college credit and prepare for success in college and in program-related careers.

 

Engineering

In Engineering students can choose to study Aerospace or Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT).  In Aerospace students study the Laws of Engineering with a focus on the physical sciences, communication, & emerging technologies. Students participate in a CADD certification program while earning Engineering college credit through ERAU. In AMT, students learn general aeronautics, airframe structures, powerplant theory, & their applications as they can work toward their FAA Part 65 AMT certification. 

Students interested in Engineering or AMT should apply to Aerospace Engineering on the Magnet Application.  

 

 

Flight

Rancho's Flight program also boasts two dynamic strands: Pilot Training & UAS.  In these programs, students are introduced to the aeronautical & transportation sciences.  Students learn the fundamentals of flight, weather, space travel, & rocketry through hands-on projects in our state-of-the-art aviation lab.  In junior year, students take Aviation Technology III which is prepares them for the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test.  As seniors students chose to earn their Private Pilot’s License or participate in our new Unmanned Aerial Systems & Operations (UAS) course.
