Digital Media Arts & Design

A person stands with hands on hips in front of a swirling, illuminated light sculpture against a dimly lit room.

In the CTE area of Digital Media Arts and Media, we offer three programs which are taught by professionals that currently work in these fields:

  • Graphic Design
  • Digital Photography
  • Video Production

Graphic Design

The Graphic Design program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and a portfolio needed for employment as a designer. This field involves the use of specialized software combined with creativity, design, and problem solving skills to create visual communication. This program focuses on developing the creativity and software skills necessary to be competitive in this field. It is completed with an internship in the graphic design field that allows the student to transfer academic skills to a professional environment.  Employment of graphic designers is expected to grow as demand for graphic design continues to increase from advertisers, publishers, and computer design firms. Digital Photography

In Digital Photography, students learn the theory and practice of image creation and visual communication utilizing traditional and digital photography methods. Students explore a variety of creative techniques for producing, editing and altering images using iMac computers, Photoshop software and other digital tools. There are various fields of photography that one can go into such as: fashion, sports, food, portraits, and various other types of commercial photography.

Video Production

Students in the Video Production Program prepare for careers in the independent, documentary, and major motion picture film industries, animation and multimedia, production and post-production houses, national and local television networks, advertising agencies, community media access stations, corporations, and much more. Students at RHS produce the morning news each day.  Emphasis in this course is on script writing, video recording, editing, converging media, and publication. Project-based learning, collaboration, and portfolio development are essential elements of this class.
